CEIC endorses Charter Reform Committee’s proposed “Alder” map
The Central Eastside Industrial Council (CEIC) Board of Directors expresses its unanimous support for the Charter Reform Committee’s proposed “Alder” district map. The CEIC is a member-based organization serving Central Eastside’s makers, artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions by advocating for a vibrant, safe, prosperous, and welcoming District.
As one of the largest districts in Portland, spanning 681 acres from I-84 to Powell Blvd. and the Waterfront to 12th Ave., the Central Eastside is home to 1,300 businesses, 22,000 employees, and 2,000 residents. After careful consideration, the CEIC Board of Directors supports the “Alder” district map for the following reasons:
This district remapping option focuses on preserving established neighborhood boundaries, allowing CEIC to best represent the interests of Central Eastside’s broader neighborhood and small business community, including Buckman, Hosford-Abernethy and the Brooklyn Neighborhood Association, among others.
This option divides the central city among three districts, using the Willamette River and I-84 as boundaries, to promote broad engagement with central city issues and economic opportunities and distribute significant assets and institutions among multiple districts.
This option allows CEIC to best advocate for the unique challenges of the industrial sanctuary and mixed-use zoning within our district.
