Important Parking Updates for the Central Eastside
Dear Central Eastside Business Community,
We want to make sure you’re aware of several important parking changes happening in the district and how your voice can help shape what happens next.
Who We Are
The Central Eastside Industrial Council (CEIC) is a nonprofit that advocates for the interests of businesses in the Central Eastside. One way we do that is through our Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee (TPAC), which provides feedback to the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) on transportation and curbside policy. We work to ensure that changes to parking and mobility are fair, equitable, and supportive of a thriving business district.
Important Updates
Citywide Meter Rate & Hour Changes – In effect August 1
You may have seen news about citywide changes to parking meter rates and hours. These changes go into effect August 1 in the Central Eastside and will eventually expand citywide.
While the CEIC did not propose or advocate for these changes, we have long advocated for 24/7 enforcement of existing parking rules to ensure safe parking is available to everyone—businesses, employees, residents, and visitors.
This change was approved by Portland City Council. If you’d like to provide feedback on these meter increases and extended hours, please contact your District 3 City Council representatives:
➡️ Tiffany Koyama Lane – councilor.koyamalane@portlandoregon.gov
➡️ Steve Novick – councilor.novick@portlandoregon.gov
➡️ Angelita Morillo – councilor.morillo@portlandoregon.gov
➡️ Mayor Keith Wilson – Mayor@portlandoregon.gov
NEW! Review Proposed Curb Use Changes Near Your Business
Last week, CEIC staff walked the district to notify businesses about PBOT’s proposed changes to curb use (metered vs. permit vs. time-limited spaces) around your building. These changes have been proposed to the CEIC as a way to streamline parking rules in the district in alignment with the existing land use in Zone N (commercial).
Please take two quick steps:
1. Review this map to see what’s changing near your business.
2. Complete our short survey by August 15 to tell us how these changes will impact you—and whether you support them. Your feedback will inform our response to PBOT at the next TPAC Committee meeting on August 27, 1–2 pm.
If you have questions or want to stay more involved, reply to this email or reach out directly to Lesslie Lopez, TPAC Program Manager, at lesslie@ceic.cc. Your feedback and participation help us ensure the Central Eastside is a place where business can thrive.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
