Five Weeks of I-5 Closures Start September 11

Beginning Friday, September 11, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will close all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 for an estimated five weeks. The closure will run all hours, all days, while crews complete extensive repairs to the elevated structure south of the Moda Center.

This means significant disruptions for anyone driving throughout Portland. Shifting your trip is the best way to stay ahead of it. We're all navigating this one together, so spread the word and help your community plan ahead.

Ways to Shift Your Trip:

  • Transit. Don’t live close to a bus, C-Tran, MAX, or Streetcar line? Find a Park and Ride or bike to a transit line. For transit updates and service alerts, or to plan your trip, visit TriMet or C-Tran.

  • Carpool. ODOT matches carpools through the Get There platform. Find coworkers to ride with or set up your own!

  • Timing. Shift your trip so you're not on the road during peak morning or evening rush, typically 7 – 9 am and 4 – 6 pm. According to ODOT's estimates, construction congestion will push those windows to 6:30 – 9 am and 4 – 8:30 pm.

  • Telework. Work from home if that’s an option through your employer.
